Survey finds Google best brand of 2003

2004-02-04

Internet search engine Google has been voted as the best brand of 2003 in a recent survey of 4,000 branding professionals.

Conducted by industry experts Interbrand, votes were based on the impact the particular brands made during the year, according to the BBC.

Not aimed at picking the best-known brands, the survey was aiming to find out what products people used the most, or what had performed the worst in the year.

Topping the list, Google overtook rivals to become the world's most popular search engine, with more than 70 per cent of the global market, seven out of 10 users click onto Google first when they need information off the Internet.

Robin Rusch editor at online magazine Brandchannel, produced by Interbrand, explained how important branding is, claiming brands have a different significance and effect depending on where people live.

However Mr Rusch told the BBC that it is the global picture that is becoming more and more important as better communications and faster travel shrink the world.
